Creative Enterprises services are available 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Services at this site are geared toward individuals who require minimal assistance or training to refine employment skills.  The goal is to move into community employment within a two-year period.  Training services at Creative Enterprises include the following:

 Skill Building:  Training is provided to assist individuals in increasing job skills and economic self-sufficiency.  Services include assistance with acquisition, retention of and improvement in self-help, socialization, and adaptive skills to prepare the individual for paid or unpaid employment.  Training concepts in areas such as attendance, task completion, problem solving, teamwork, employer/employee interaction and safety are emphasized in each training department.

We currently have four work skill training departments at Creative Enterprises:

·         CLEAN N’ SHINE CAR WASH – provides hand car wash detail work.  Individuals in this department learn attention to detail, safety, teamwork and customer satisfaction.

·         CRUISING CAFÉ – This is a certified kitchen program that offers training in kitchen safety, food preparation, cooking, serving and clean-up, working with the public, taking orders and operating a cash register. 

·         THE CHOP SHOP - Shredding of confidential, personal and general documents using industrial grade machines takes place in this work area.  Emphasis is placed on accurate sorting, maintaining a steady work flow and confidentiality.  The Chop Shop also includes the operation of  two industrial-grade balers for both paper and cardboard.

·         PARTS ASSEMBLY – Assembly work for local area factories takes place in the Parts Assembly department.  Training includes knowledge of the required steps necessary to assemble & produce consistent parts, attention to detail, safety awareness and quality checks.

Supported /Integrated Employment Services
Job development provided through initial and ongoing supports are available to assist an individual to obtain and maintain paid employment that would otherwise be unachievable without such support. These services are provided in integrated employment settings, in the community, and in the individual’s home. Some services are provided under cooperative agreements with Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Sanilac ISD, and Blue Water Center for Independent Living. Contract providers and community training sites are utilized for some training or paid employment opportunities.

Services include: Work evaluation, job development, job placement, job coaching, long term follow along services, individually run business supports (Micro-enterprises), mobile crew employment, and transportation to the supported employment site.

Supported Employment Services are generally available at Creative Enterprises

Community Enrichment classes are available Monday – Thursday  from 8:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Class instruction time varies from 1.5 hours - 2 hour sessions. 

For individuals who wish to expand their personal awareness, knowledge and independence, we offer a wide variety of classes based on their expressed needs.  These classes are taught at a higher level than the Journey Skill Center and are developed for individuals who are independent in personal and social skills and do not require supervision in community settings.  Examples of classes that have traditionally been held include:

    • Journalism
    • Language Arts
    • Basic Reading & Math
    • Ti-Chi/Yoga
    • Your Health
    • Self-Advocacy
    • Basic & Advanced Crafts
    • Science
    • Budgeting & Handling MoneyComputers

The Community Enrichment staff also teach the mandatory four-week “Introduction to Creative Enterprises” class for individuals new to that program.  These classes cover the rules, requirements and expectations for participation in the work training program along with an emphasis on safety, manners, and teamwork.  During the final session, individuals have an opportunity to spend time in each of the four work areas to determine their interest and gauge their skills.
